‘Forgot your uncle Mahavir Phogat’: Vinesh Phogat served blunt reminder by brother-in-law Pawan Saroha
Wrestler Vinesh Phogat gave an emotional post on social media on Friday night. The star spoke about her heartbreaking disqualification from the women’s 50kg final at the Paris Olympics 2024. Vinesh also shed light on the ups and downs of his life which included the death of his father and his mother being diagnosed with stage III cancer. . He thanked his coach, physio and other support staff. But the name of legendary wrestling coach Mahavir Phogat, who is also his uncle, is missing. However, the post did not go down well with Vinesh’s cousin Geeta Phogat’s husband Pawan Saroha, who pointed out that the post did not mention his uncle Mahavir Singh Phogat’s name anywhere. Pawan himself is a wrestler and Commonwealth Games bronze medalist.
“Vinesh, you write very well but today you probably forgot your uncle Mahavir Phogat. Who started your wrestling career. God bless you with pure wisdom,” Pawan wrote while re-sharing Vinesh’s post on X.

Vinesh announced her retirement from the sport after being disqualified from the women’s 50 kg final for being 100 grams overweight. He challenged the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) but his appeal was dismissed.
In an emotional post on social media, Vinesh shared his childhood dreams, the hardships he faced after losing his father and also recorded people’s contributions to his extraordinary journey that ended in heartbreak in Paris.
“…I just want to say that we didn’t give up, our efforts didn’t stop, and we didn’t surrender but the clock stopped and the time wasn’t right. So I was lucky,” he wrote, noting that before weighing in on the second day he Worked with the team.
“To my team, my fellow Indians and my family, it felt like this: the goals we were working towards and what we planned to achieve were unfinished, something might always be missing, and things might never be the same again.
“Maybe under different circumstances, I could see myself playing till 2032, because fighting and wrestling will always be in me. I can’t tell the future what the future holds for me and what awaits me on this journey, but I am sure of what I believe. I do and will always continue to fight for what is right,” he wrote.
