2 Vaishno Devi pilgrims killed in landslides in Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir.
Katra/Jammu:
Two women pilgrims were killed and a girl seriously injured in a landslide on the new track of the Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Monday, officials said.
According to them, the landslide occurred near Panchi, three kilometers ahead of the building around 2.30 pm. A portion of the overhead iron structure was also damaged, officials said.
They said the pilgrims were on their way to the shrine when they got trapped under the iron structure after the landslide.
Riasi Deputy Commissioner Special Paul Mahajan quoting preliminary information reports said two women died and a girl was seriously injured in the incident.
Senior police and civil administration officials have rushed to the spot, and more details are awaited, he told PTI.
Mahajan is going to Katra — the base camp for pilgrims at the top of the Trikuta hills.
Officials said rescue operations were started soon after the landslide and the movement of pilgrims on the track was stopped.
On New Year’s Day in 2022, 12 pilgrims were killed and 16 injured in a stampede at the temple.
