AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi backs nationwide protest against Waqf Bill
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Waisi on September 2 criticized the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and called for nationwide protests against the proposed law.

At a protest meeting against the bill, the AIMIM chief said on September 2 All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has decided to start a nationwide protest.

The Wakf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, provides for the renaming of the Wakf Act as the Unified Wakf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995.
It seeks to clearly define “Waqf”. Waqf Any person who has practiced Islam for at least five years and owns such property and to ensure that women are not deprived of their right to inheritance by creating Waqf-Alal-Awlad.
The Bill seeks to remove Section 40 relating to the power of the Board to determine whether a property is Waqf property, provide for submission of waqf accounts to the Board through a central portal for better control over their activities by mutawallis, reform the tribunal structure. with two members, and provides for a fixed period of ninety days to appeal to the High Court against the order of the Tribunal.
The bill provides for the formation of separate awqaf boards for Boharas and Agakhanis.
In the second meeting of the JPC on August 30, Member of Parliament Dr Jagadambika Pal Held in the Parliament Building Annexe. The committee invited All India Sunni Jamiatul Ulama, Mumbai, Delhi-based Indian Muslims for Civil Rights, Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board and Rajasthan Board of Muslim Waqf to register their views.
